2025 – Back in the Game

After buying Gilfy back in 2023, I embarked on an extension project on my house. This took two years! So I finally got round to project Gilfy mid August 2025.

It started in quite a familiar way after all this time, I spent 60% of the time staring just stood there staring at it.

What to do…?

I was considering re-doing this to make it look like factory. Having been sent some pics showing what this is supposed to look like, I decided to just fully weld this in place as it was stronger (And I’d already done it 10 years ago)

Little job

I noticed the plate I’d replaced where the washer bottle goes wasn’t welded to the inner rear quarter panel. So I sliced a 1mm gap and proceeded to weld this small bit. I soon realised, anything I’d learned about welding in the past had gone. Thank god for 40grit flap discs.

Bloody panel fit again

After spending weeks getting this right many years ago, I was having issues again. After I’d hammer and dolly’d some of the mating faces on the inner rear arch, yet again I was fighting to get the door to fit in the hole properly. I’d had to “undo” the a-pillar when changing the bulkhead so it’s clear this is the problem.

Aha!

After battling with the placement of the bottom of the a-pillar, I found this pic of the replacement sill clamped to the car. I realised, I’d cut the sill to fit the a-pillar before I’d undone it. Annoying it meant it was in the right place after and I shouldn’t have touched it yesterday.
